The Shiva Purana - 14

 Vidyeswara Samhita - Chapter - 9



This chapter gives Nadikesvara speaks about the celestial worship of Lord Shiva by Brahma and Vishnu. They installed the lord with all the members of the Family and worshipped him. God was presented and showered with ornaments, flowers, incense material, and all divine splendid things. In order to set precedence Lord distributed every thing among his attendants in order of priority. Brahma and Vishnu were gratified by the gestutre and adored Lord Shiva. Isvara then speaks to everyone glorifying the day as Shiva Ratri, the most auspicious to worship the Lord and fast the whole day and night. the Linga should be decorated with flowers and worshipped following abstinence and positive mind. On Shivaratri, whoever worships Lord would get the benevolence of worshipping Him for the whole year. It is also a day when new inga prathishta or installation could be done. On the day of Ardra Nakshatra in Margasira Month, the worship of Shiva and Parvathi will bestow ample blessings. The phallic emblem of Shiva Linga manifests worldly enjoyment and salvation. The linga when viewed, touched and meditated upon wards of all future births. In the tussle between Brahma and Vishnu the Phallic Emblem which rose high as a mountain of fire will be famous as Arunagiri. The Lord prophesized that many holy centres will spring up in and around Arunachala. residence or death in this holy place will ensure liberation. any donation, sacrifice, festivity, and offering in Arunachala will be millionfold efficacious. A mere remembrance of Lord Shiva in Arunachala is welfare, salvation and auspicious. The worship of Agni Linga in Arunachala accords five types of salvation - Salokya, Samipya, Sarupya, Sarsti, and Sayujya. Isvara thus revealed his supreme form and asked Brahma and Vishnu to cast of false pride and prestige and removed mutual enemity. This chapter emphasizes the Isatva in both manifest and manifest forms as Linga and Isvara.
